582 Build Your Confidence with Jordan Harbinger
"Our first impressions are always made non-verbally” One of my favorite guests I’ve had on this show is Jordan Harbinger, from The Art of Charm. Previously, he gave great advice on how to leave the right first impression, and most importantly it’s not made through what we say. So little of the impression we give off is through our words. Our body language, says so much more than anything that comes out of our mouths. This 5 Minute Friday will give you tips to build your confidence and create the impression you want, on Episode 582. In this episode you will learn: When first impressions are really made (00:50) How to test the way we make perceptions (1:54) Ways to create a good first impression (3:12) The doorway drill (4:27) Plus much more... 581 Gabrielle Bernstein: The Judgment Detox
"JUDGMENT COMES FROM THE MOMENT OF SEPARATION.” One thing I’ve always struggled with in life is feeling like I was being judged. I was afraid of what people would think of me, and I felt I had an image I needed to keep up. I’m sure you can relate. I discovered that this was caused more by judgment of myself. I was judging everything I did right, and everything I did wrong. Anything I did wrong I would beat myself up for. One thing I’ve been working on is letting go of judgment. I try to observe when it’s there, and not have any emotional attachment to it. It’s amazing how much the world can change when judgment isn’t in the picture. "Judgment is toxic and holds us back from living our lives.” On this episode of The School of Greatness we are joined by Gabrielle Bernstein. Gabby is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Universe Has Your Back, and has written five additional bestsellers! She was featured on Oprah’s SuperSoul Sunday as a “next-generation thought leader,” and The New York Times named her “a new role model.” She appears regularly as an expert on The Dr. Oz Show and co-hosted the Guinness World Record largest guided meditation with Deepak Chopra. Gabrielle is a certified Kundalini yoga and meditation teacher. She is also trained in the Emotional Freedom Technique and she’s a student of Transcendental Meditation, as taught by the David Lynch Foundation. YouTube chose Gabrielle as one of its 16 YouTube Next Video Bloggers. Mashable included her in its list of 11 Must-Follow Twitter Accounts for Inspiration. Forbes called her one of the 20 Best-Branded Women. Gabby is here to talk about her newest book, Judgment Detox, Release the beliefs that hold you back from living a better life, that is being released in January 2018. She gives amazing insights on how to control the feeling of judgment and find inner peace and respect for yourself on Episode 581. "Forgiveness isn’t something we have to go figure out.” Some Questions I Ask: Why did you write judgment detox? (5:05) What was judgment doing to you? (6:23) Do you feel like you were more judgmental of yourself or others? (9:54) When did you realize you were so judgmental? (10:41) What’s worse, judging others or judging yourself? 580 How to Set Boundaries to Build Thriving Relationships with Chris Lee
“CREATING BOUNDARIES IS NOT ABOUT CREATING A WALL, IT'S CREATING AN AGREEMENT.” There’s a lot going on in this world lately, with relationships being violated. We’re seeing it daily with the #MeToo movement, and so many people in Hollywood coming forward. Problems aren’t just occurring in intimate relationships, but in business, family, friendships, and so on. Almost all of this stems from boundaries being crossed. Boundaries are something that we all need to create and stand by. But we can’t just create them, we need to communicate them. We need to make sure the people in our lives are clear about our boundaries, and express ourselves the moment that they are crossed. You are a beautiful person, and worth the best - so make sure others are aware of that. I know it’s hard, and that you probably worry about being fired or losing someone close to you. You can’t be, because that job or that relationship isn’t make you happy. Losing it will open you up to new possibilities. The worst-case scenario about expressing and honouring your barriers is that things will get better - even if it means moving on. On this episode, we are joined again by the amazing Chris Lee. Chris has been on my show more than anyone else, a total of 13 times since episode 36. Each time we have him on the air he gives amazing insights, and he has been by my side through some amazing transformations. Chris Lee has spent over 25 years of his life transforming the lives of thousands of people worldwide through his workshops, coaching, and participation in all media, teaching people how to live an abundant prosperous life. He joins us today to give insights on how to increase yourself worth, learn to set boundaries, and how to build the most important relationship - with yourself on Episode 580. Some Questions I Ask: How do we take responsibility for the relationships we want? (12:34) What are things people can do to develop self-worth? (14:51) Should we write down our relationship goals? (19:10) What if you’re in a relationship with a bully or a decision maker? (23:34) Would you say someone who does not create boundaries is saying they don’t value their self-worth? (29:23) Why is it such a big fear for us to lose someone? (37:32) Why are we so afraid to be alone? (45:05) In This Episode You Will Learn: The importance of boundaries in a relationship (10:07) How to tell if a boundary is being crosses (12:02) Why you need a vision about your self-worth (18:28) How to make the requests you need to make (20:03) The reasons you should listen to other’s requests (23:11) The kind of relationships you should be working towards (27:00) How the environment affects self worth (31:30) Why you need to learn to forgive (41:20) See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
579 Live in Abundance with JJ Virgin
"THE BEST THING YOU CAN DO IS START EVERY SINGLE DAY IN GRATITUDE.” Every day we limit ourselves without even realizing it. So many times, we think we are reaching for the stars, but we aren’t even reaching for the trees. On a previous episode, we were joined by JJ Virgin, who gave me some great advice on how we can all change our mindset. It all starts with looking at what we want, and thinking if it’s really big enough. Listen this episode and she breaks down simple ways you can open your mind and switch from living in a scarcity mindset to living in an abundance mindset in just a few moments, on Episode 579. 578 JD Roth: The Journey of Transformation Against All Odds
"THE QUESTION YOU HAVE TO AK IS, ‘IS IT YOUR BEST?’” Today I’m joined by someone I’ve seen on television as long as I can remember. He’s been in the business longer than most people and has used his power to help everyone he meets. JD Roth is an actor, producer, and best known for his hit TV show The Biggest Loser. He fell into his passion at the age of 10, and has earned his fame through the power of transforming others. JD bases all of his decisions on passion and what story he can tell to his audience. While most people think about money or ratings, that’s one of the furthest things from his mind. He’s a unique individual who has touched and inspired each person he meets. I was blown away when I first met him at just how much he engages with everyone around. He’s sincere, listens, and appreciates everyone. We’re lucky enough to have him share his life experiences, and give insights on how you can transform yourself into a passion driven machine that lives the most fulfilling life possible, on Episode 578. 577 How to Connect with Influencers, Thought Leaders and Decision Makers
"FOCUS ON INDIVIDUALS WHO REALLY INSPIRE YOU." Wrapping up this year, I'm doing an inventory of what's worked in my life and business in 2017. Similar to the last Coffee Conversations with Cesar, I wanted to go over one of the most important keys to the success I've experienced this past year. Partnerships have been a massive key to my success. The podcast has grown because of the key people I’ve met and had on the show. Some of those relationships have grown into amazing business opportunities and big win/win moments. So I wanted to do a solo round on what I've learned through the years about connecting and building powerful relationships with influencers. I haven't heard a lot of people talk about the best ways to do this -- but I have seen a lot of what doesn't work going on. So in this episode, I cut straight to the truth and get real. My intention is to shine the light on what actually does work so that you can create quality relationships. If you hear me say things you've never heard anyone else say in this, let me know! I'm always interested in your feedback. Here's the truth about building relationships with influencers the right way in Episode 577. In this episode you will learn: The 3 C’s to remind you to connect with thought leaders: Chill - Let them know what they’ve done has inspired you in some way (3:50) Curiosity - Ask thoughtful questions about the things that matter the most to them right now (5:42) Care - Be of service, give on something specific, find a way to tap into their heart (7:22) How to email someone: Research them (13:35) Find 3 points of connection (14:58) Make it about what you can do for them (17:54) What not to do: (18:37) Don’t ask for advice Don’t ask for a favor Don’t ask to pick their brain Don’t ask to work for free See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
576 What Is Success
"GIVE YOURSELF PERMISSION TO BE IMPERFECT.” We all want to have success, and the one thing I’ve discovered is that most people don’t know what that means. Success has many definitions, and knowing them will help to keep you on track. On this episode, I’ve teamed up with Fearless Motivation to help inspire you to find your definition and inspire you to take action in pursuing it. So, get out there, get moving, and achieve the success you want with a little help from this Five Minute Friday, Episode 576. 575 Coffee Conversations: Top 7 Takeaways from 2017
"YOU HAVE A GIFT INSIDE OF YOU, SOMETHING UNIQUE TO OFFER TO THE WORLD. NO ONE ELSE WILL BE YOU." Back by popular demand, Cesar and I sat down again this week to record a third round of what we are calling "Coffee Conversations." This was a fun one because 2017 has been an incredible year for our business, the School of Greatness brand, the podcast, and much more. I thought it would be cool to go over the top takeaways and lessons I learned this year from all the experiences I've had. I also love hearing Cesar's take on what we've done and where we are headed. A few of the things we talk about might surprise you, but most of what I learned this year is confirming things that have proved true year after year in my career as an entrepreneur. The more I think about what makes businesses continue to grow and be successful, the more I realize that when I focus, commit, and execute on what I've committed to, the results come. Even when craziness is happening all around, even when things are uncertain, even when I'm pushing myself out of my comfort zone, if I am clear on what I'm creating and commit to the process, good things still happen. I hope these takeaways serve you in some way in your own goals, business, or challenges you are taking on in 2018. I can't wait to see what we create next as you'll hear us discuss in Episode 575 with Coffee Conversations. In this episode you will learn: The biggest wins I achieved this year in my business (0:45) The Top 7 Takeaways from 2017 for me: Think bigger and take risks (5:18) Build an all-star team (12:51) Strategize, organize, systematize (18:53) Innovate with new products and approaches (23:10) Invest in your business and bet on you (29:35) Health (37:50) Do things that matter and bring you joy (41:20) Plus much more... "You’ve gotta have something really deep inside your heart to compete in whatever you’re doing.” Many people dream of being a champion. Whether it’s in a sport or business, it takes dedication and time. My guest today, Jason Khalipa, is a man who has mastered both. He’s a CrossFit champion many times over, and opened his own successful chain of gym. Jason paused his life has a champion to step into his most important role - being a father. With his high school sweetheart by his side he’s been helping his daughter fight the illness with health, diet, and the most important ingredient of love. Through all of this Jason has still managed to continue to grow his amazing gym business, making sure every person who walks through the doors of one of his gyms is treated with loyalty and appreciation. 573 Keep Your Head Up with Andy Grammer
"IT’S A SWEET DEFIANCE TO FOLLOW YOUR PURPOSE.” Music is something that’s always been in my life. I love it. I used to sing in school, and I’m fascinated with people who pushed through the toughest times of the art to make their dreams become a reality. I had the pleasure of interviewing Andy Grammer on a past episode and there’s a lot he’s said that has stuck with me. When the universe seems like it’s telling you to stop and give up, that’s when you have to push even harder and let it know your serious. That’s exactly what Andy Grammer did. His dedication brought him from busking on the streets of Santa Monica to being a multi-platinum artist. I hope you’re as inspired by his story as I was, on Episode 573. 572 Rachel Platten: Never Give Up on Your Dreams
"IT’S NOT ABOUT ME, IT'S ABOUT THE EXCHANGE OF ENERGY ON STAGE.” So many times we give up on our dreams because of deadlines we put on ourselves. There have been plenty of moments when I felt like things were taking too long or like I was getting too old. It’s those moments we need to look within and understand why we are doing it. Find our real purpose. Do you want to be an author to hit the New York Times bestseller list or because you want to have people read your work? Is it because you want your message out there or so that you can make your profile bio look great? My feeling is that your purpose should always be to serve. Serving other people brings fulfillment to yourself. Reaping the material rewards is just a bonus. Remember, you’re never too old. It’s never too late for your dreams to come true. Our guest today, Rachel Platten, didn’t reach her mega-success in music until she was 32 - when most people would have given up on their dreams. Rachel is an incredibly hard working person. She kept pushing and pursuing her dreams for over ten years before anyone noticed. She was doing small intimate gigs and performing for people in hospitals. When her hit song Fight Song came out it wasn’t an instant success. She was devastated and lost in her definition of success. She was certain it would sell millions of records and hit the charts. After reaching an all-time emotional low, feeling her only chance passed her by, she began to reflect on herself. The reason she got into making music was because she loved it for herself and she loved the connection it gave her with people. She came to the conclusion that playing hospitals and small venues was enough for her to feel happy. After that revelation, it was only a few weeks later that her song became a hit. She let go of her ego and trusted in the process. Doesn't sound like coincidence to me. Discover all of Rachel's incredible story and much more, on Episode 572. Show notes: What’s the thing you’re most grateful for and inspired by this year? (7:05) Did you always feel like you were looking for outside approval? (8:44) How did you stay dedicated to your dream for years before anything happened? (10:01) Why was music shut down in your life for a while? (17:39) Do you get nervous on stage? (18:56) Who was your greatest teacher? (20:37) Do you doubt yourself now? (22:14) How do you find confidence? (23:17) What’s been your most memorable moment on stage? (25:23) Whose opinion matters the most to you right now? (27:42) Did you work other jobs while you were starting? (34:07) How has becoming famous affected your marriage? (37:17) Who have you been jealous of most in your career? (43:43) What do you think is your highest purpose? (47:46) In this episode you will learn: Rachel’s experience performing at hospitals (10:50) What it was like to perform in front of 80,000 people in Trinidad (14:08) The importance of staying on mission (24:11) How Rachel realized she didn’t need the approval of others (28:38) What it was like performing small shows for years (32:13) How she survived living in the city (35:07) The dream her husband is pursuing (40:01) How she’s not afraid to go to places others are (42:53) When a big dream becomes a delusion (44:40) How you begin to lose yourself (52:31) Plus much more... 571 From Drug Addict to Whole30 Founder: Melissa Hartwig
"I FELT LIKE I HAD TO CHANGE EVERYTHING ABOUT ME AND MY LIFE TO STAY CLEAN” So many of us feel like we struggle with our weight. We search for diets and end up getting frustrated with them because the rules are hard to follow or they simply don’t work because there’s no 'one size fits all' solution. A while back I discovered a great, easy to use program called Whole30. It explains, step by step, how you can find the diet program that works for you. There’s a lot of people out there whose diet is making them sick. Maybe your friends can eat grains, but you can’t. Whole30 is designed to help you find exactly what YOU need. This system is one that felt so good I took it way past the 30-day mark. But the woman behind it is even more incredible. "CONFIDENCE IS THE WILLINGNESS TO TRY.” We all need a tool chest filled with things that will help us with confidence, and motivation - especially if we want to be successful. One of the most powerful, useful, and important ones you need is the 5 second rule. On this Five Minute Friday I felt I HAD to bring you this tip from our episode with Mel Robbins. She’s a bestselling author, a former criminal defense attorney, a CNN commentator, happily married for 20 years, and a mom of 3 kids. She also has a 7-figure speaking business and is an inspiration of mine. Mel was easily one of my favorite interviews, and I know this is a tool that can launch you further than you ever expect. 569 My Journey of Reclaiming Masculinity
"I DIDN’T HAVE THE COURAGE TO EXPRESS WHAT I WANTED - WHAT I NEEDED.” Lately I’ve been traveling around doing a book tour for The Mask of Masculinity. I always like to do a Q&A with my audiences to learn more about them and help answer any questions that may not be in the book. I recently recorded my talk in Los Angeles with an amazing group. They really dug deep and asked a lot of great questions, including a lot about my past. My book can only fit so much information and was written to help others more than be a biography. So I wanted to share with you this special talk. I really open up and practice what I preach. I talk about my father and open up about how he affected my life. I also share how I’m still learning, how I keep myself on track to keep my aggression in check, and much more, on Episode 569.
