Coronavirus Vaccine: Finding Immunity Faster Without Animals
The key to developing a successful coronavirus vaccine likely lies in those who have already survived the virus. That is the opinion of Dr. John Pippin who joins , “The Weight Loss Champion” Chuck Carroll on The Exam Room™ podcast to talk about fast-tracked efforts to develop a vaccine without testing on animals. Dr. Pippin explains how bypassing usually mandatory animal testing may lead to a viable vaccine becoming available years sooner than it otherwise would be. Moving directly to human trials would also save countless animal lives and save developers millions of dollars in expenses. Potentially those savings would lead to lower costs for the medication. With such promise, could the future of all drug testing become animal free? That is what Chuck and Dr. Pippin will explore. Plus, in this time when we’re all hyperaware of our health we revisit an age-old question: can an apple a day actually keep the doctor away? Nutrition & Pandemics: What We’ve Known Since 1918
Dr. Neal Barnard and Dr. Hana Kahleova are back with “The Weight Loss Champion” Chuck Carroll to answer your questions about the coronavirus on The Exam Room™ podcast. Plus, Dr. Kahleova presents research that dates back to the deadly 1918 pandemic caused by the H1N1 virus. One-third of the entire world’s population is believed to have been infected and it is estimated that 50 million people lost their lives. However, out of the dark time came promising findings that could have major implications for the current COVID-19 outbreak. A century’s old newspaper headline regarding the findings reads “120 exposed. 90 patients. No deaths. None very sick.” Dr. Kahleova will share the details of the promising research that focused on nutrition, sleep, and hydrotherapy. Dr. Barnard and Chuck also discuss unconfirmed reports that the exotic animal markets in China where the COVID-19 virus is believed to have originated are already reopening after being shut down when the outbreak first began. And Dr. Barnard estimates when the COVID-19 pandemic is expected to peak throughout U.S. More importantly, he and Chuck outline how dramatically a person's health can improve by changing their diet before the peak hits their town. COVID-19: A Preventable Pandemic?
The COVID-19 pandemic is turning life upside down. As hundreds of thousands fall ill, billions of others are now stricken with fear and wondering whether they will be next to become infected. As life grinds to a halt worldwide the entire situation is surreal. Did it have to be this way? On this episode of The Exam Room™ podcast, “The Weight Loss Champion” Chuck Carroll is joined by Dr. Neal Barnard and Wendy Orent, author of Plague: The Mysterious Past and Terrifying Future of the World’s Most Dangerous Disease and Bio Warrior to explore the missteps that may have prevented the pandemic. The group discusses the exotic meat markets in China that are believed to be ground zero for the virus. The conditions under which the live animals are kept have turned the markets into breeding grounds for virus transmission. More alarmingly, Chuck and Wendy delve into the restrictions imposed on the markets following the SARS outbreak nearly 20 years ago and how they likely would have prevented this pandemic from happening. Why were those restrictions lifted? She first wrote about this in an op-ed in the Los Angeles Times and now takes a deeper look on The Exam Room™. Dr. Barnard then takes the conversation further to explore how poultry farms and meat plants are rife with bacteria that puts all of our health at risk — even vegans. — — — Chuck Carroll Twitter: @ChuckCarrollWLC IG: @ChuckCarrollWLC Facebook: https://wghtloss.cc/ChuckFacebook — — — Dr. Neal Barnard Twitter: @DrNealBarnard IG: @DrNealBarnard Facebook: http://bit.ly/DrBarnardFB — — — Wendy Orent Twitter: @WendyOrent Op-Ed: This new coronavirus was preventable: https://lat.ms/2TZuqFZ Books Plague: The Mysterious Past and Terrifying Future of the World’s Most Dangerous Disease: https://amzn.to/33oy67e Bio Warrior: https://amzn.to/2x3Bs3u — — — Physicians Committee Twitter: @PCRM IG: @PhysiciansCommittee Facebook: https://wghtloss.cc/PCRMFacebook — — — Share the Show Please subscribe and give the show a 5-star rating on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or many other podcast providers. Your health and nutrition questions are answered! On this episode of The Exam Room™ podcast, “The Weight Loss Champion” Chuck Carroll welcomes Dr. Vanita Rahman back to the show to open the doctor’s mailbag! Among the questions answered: How much can just one meal affect your cholesterol levels? What is the best time of day to eat fruit? Can a plant-based diet help a person diagnosed with multiple autoimmune disorders? What is the best form of B12 to take and how much should we be taking? Are you eating enough calories on a low-fat whole-food plant-based diet? Plus, Chuck is joined by Mark Kennedy, Vice President of Legal Affairs for the Physicians Committee to answer another important question. Getting 10,000 Black Women To Go Vegan
More than half of all African-American women are obese, according to the CDC. And the solution to stop the unhealthy epidemic is a plant-based diet, according to “The Ageless Vegan” Tracye McQuirter. The public health nutritionist joins “The Weight Loss Champion” Chuck Carroll to discuss her efforts to inspire the community to get healthy through the 10,000 Black Vegan Women campaign which helps women modify their eating habits. The pair also discuss social injustices of food in underprivileged communities and why there can be significant disparities in life expectancy even among people who live only blocks apart. Chuck is then joined by Washington Post columnist, Courtland Milloy, who shares his remarkable story of change. For his entire life he swore off broccoli. He hated it. Couldn’t stand it. Wanted nothing to do with it. His disdain was so great that he even dedicated ink to it in his column. The problem for Courtland was that the ex-communication of cruciferous vegetables — and many others — was taking a toll on his health. At one time he could barely lift his leg into the car and walked as though he was nearing his 80th birthday. In reality, that particular milestone was still decades away. Fast forward to today, where Courtland has adopted a plant-based diet and people half his age are having trouble keeping up! He’s chronicled his journey to health in his column and now he’s sharing it on The Exam Room along with his health Sherpa, Gwyn Whittaker! — — — Chuck Carroll Twitter: @ChuckCarrollWLC IG: @ChuckCarrollWLC Facebook: https://wghtloss.cc/ChuckFacebook — — — Tracye McQuirter 10,000 Black Vegan Women: http://bit.ly/10kbvw "The Ageless Vegans" Exam Room Interview: https://apple.co/2woN7JG Twitter: @byanygreens IG: @byanygreens — — — Courtland Milloy Twitter: @ctmilloy Facebook: http://bit.ly/milloyfb — — — Courtland’s Columns We may not like our veggies.
